Professor Emily Bouck, a leading scholar of special education, has been appointed interim associate dean for research in the Michigan State University College of Education.
Bouck will serve in the role during a transitionary period. University Distinguished Professor Ann Austin, who has been responsible for overseeing research in the college, is currently serving as interim dean while the College of Education pursues an international search for its next dean.
As interim associate dean, Bouck will work with faculty members and graduate students to support their research projects and efforts to obtain research grants. The Office of Research Administration, directed by Jeannie Patrick, provides a comprehensive, central resource for these efforts.
Bouck is an active researcher, focusing on mathematical interventions for students with disabilities or those at-risk, as well as response to intervention (RtI) in mathematics, particularly at the secondary level.
She has published over 150 peer-reviewed journal articles, in addition to six books and over 30 book chapters. She also is actively involved with grant writing and leading funded programs, having received grant support from the Office of Special Education Programs, the National Science Foundation and the Spencer Foundation.
“Her experiences as a researcher, and with using the research support resources within the college, will be useful as she works with college researchers and the Office of Research Administration,” said Austin.
Bouck also directs the Special Education programs at MSU, including an undergraduate degree, multiple master’s degree programs and a doctorate.
In addition, she is currently serving as co-chair of the Dean Search Committee.
