Lumivero Transition

In 2026, the MSU College of Education will transition from Watermark to Lumivero for our Educator Preparation Program student learning and accreditation platform.

Use this page to learn about this transition, access resources and see step-by-steps for archiving data from Watermark (also known as SL&L).

Watermark is the Student Licensure and Learning (i.e., SL&L) platform that MSU and CED Educator Preparation Programs (EPP) have used to management course assessments tied to accreditation, internship requirements, and student portfolios.

Lumivero is the Student Learning Experience system we will use for these means and more beginning August 2026.

All college programs (undergraduate and graduate) leading to educator certification will use Lumivero to support program tasks, accreditation, and shared work.

Our three-year Lumivero contract begins in 2026. It will run annually from July 1 – June 31.

During 2026-2029, we will monitor and review our experience and satisfaction with our new system, learning and adjusting prior to deciding whether to commit to long-term use.

Lumivero is user-friendly, provides essential cohort and accreditation support and information, is used by other MSU programs and has integration capability with our current MSU tech systems, which will increase efficiency and accuracy, and will reduce tri-annual, manual data input.

Lumivero also provides tools to address aspects we in CED have identified as needs:

  • At-a-glance dashboard for ease of use and navigation of required and optional program tasks
  • Gateway supports for students, from acceptance to degree completion
  • Student cohort groups with accurate accounting of who is a part of our Educator Preparation Programs and how they are doing, individually and as a group, over time
  • Shared, online, up-to-date internship placement, progress, training, expectations, evaluation, and completion information
  • Customizable reports and processes to meet our accreditation needs over time

Lumivero supports both Michigan Department of Education-approved accreditation organizations, CAEP and AAQEP.

  • Now - May 4, 2026 - Individual retrieval of desired items from Watermark
  • May 4, 2026 - Integration of Lumivero into MSU platforms; training of program administrators
  • August 2026 - Optional Lumivero training for users; additional online resources (video, tutorials) provided to all users
  • August 21, 2026 - Classes begin; Lumivero is used moving forward

An initial email communication regarding the transition was sent to all MSU-affiliated Watermark users on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Watermark Data Retrieval

As part of our transition to Lumivero, the college will download and archive Watermark all system data, including user data, assessment/rubric data and placement information. These archives will support institutional record-keeping and allow us to transfer relevant information to the new system as needed.

Individual programs and departments are responsible for downloading any data they need for their program reports and initiatives. This section may not be relevant, applicable or of interest to all Watermark users.

Departments, programs and individual users should use the guidance below to retrieve data:

Admin users:

Reports → Extracts

Use for bulk data. Review the Watermark website for further details

Faculty:

Access the Reports tab Use for rubric data (courses), time log reports, standards data or the comparative data report to combine multiple filters. Faculty who serve as coordinators or assign placements may also download placement data through the Placement Management tab. Review the Watermark website for further details

Alums:

It is possible you may not wish to or need to retrieve any documents. Consider downloading your scores or submissions directly from the "Activity" within the Watermark system.

Current Students:

If you are a current student in a MSU Teacher Preparation Program course with a field component, continue to upload your hours to Watermark (SL&L) for the remainder of the spring 2026 semester.

The department (TE or CEPSE) will download all field hour log information (past and present), meaning you do not have to. In other words, there are no required action steps for you to take in this transition.

Mentor Teachers:

The Departments of Teacher Education (TE) and Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education (CEPSE) will download all field hour log information and teacher candidate forms (past and present) from Watermark (SL&L), meaning you do not have to. In other words, there are no required action steps for you to take in this transition.
