Education is one of several disciplines ranked by U.S. News & World Report for online programs, including business, engineering, nursing, computer information technology and criminal justice. The rankings for education are created based on various factors, including student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, peer reputation and admissions selectivity. Points for each institution on a scale of 0-100 are calculated by aggregating data about students, faculty and practices across these programs; an emphasis is placed on the program with the largest enrollment.
The MSU College of Education currently offers five fully online master’s degree programs, including the Master of Arts in Education (MAED); Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET); Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education (HALE); Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum (MATC) and Master of Arts in Special Education.
This year MSU tied with two other institutions with a score of 84/100: Ball State University and St. John’s University. MSU joins seven other universities from Michigan that are on the published list of 188 top-ranked programs.
