Spartans and friends,
The world is changing rapidly.
At any given time, it seems as if this letter, and this magazine, could have been rewritten to respond to new shifts.
While change can evoke feelings of uncertainty or concern, change can also be an opportunity for reflection, creation and inspiration.
Our college and university are undergoing transformation as we analyze and resolve budget constraints. Rather than limiting our realities, I called upon our community to lead boldly, act ethically and use evidence to ensure we are, as always, focused on students, sustainability and success.
We must consider not just what is, but what can be.
The stories within the January 2026 New Educator illustrate examples of Spartans who are already enacting this, taking our Imagin[ED] 2030 Strategic Plan from an idea to a reality. They ask pressing questions. They research evidence-based, community-centered approaches. They develop pathways to create the next generation of professionals.
I am deeply proud of our college and community.
Conversations and plans for our future are promising.
I am committed to working toward a future where College of Education Spartans past, present and future remain proud to call this their academic home.
In Spartan Spirit,
Jerlando F. L. Jackson
Dean & MSU Research Foundation Distinguished Professor of Education
