The Institute for the Study of Youth Sports will be hosting its second annual DEI Conversations in Sport conference on September 30, 2024. The DEI Conversations in Sport conference series seeks to identify topics, provide a space for solution-focused discussion, develop strategies to combat the -isms and -phobias, and equip coaches and administrators with the tools to improve their youth sports environments.
Please join us for this two-part hybrid professional development opportunity conducted by faculty and staff from the MSU Institute for the Study of Youth Sports and the MSU Department of Kinesiology. To accommodate the busy schedules of workshop participants, we have split the programming into a 2-hour interactive Zoom presentation, followed by an on-campus experience that will engage participants in adapted sport programming.
What will I learn?
This year’s conference topic is DEI Conversations in Sport: A Roadmap for Disability Sport Programming. This workshop will help sport practitioners (coaches, administrators, and teachers) develop a pathway to bring disability sport programming to their schools and communities.
Who should attend?
This conference is designed specifically for athletic administrators, sport leaders, and coaches in the state of Michigan. We strongly encourage athletic directors to bring 2-3 coaches from their school.
Who will be presenting?
Meet the facilitators – Janet Hauck, Ph.D., George Harnick, M.S., and Piotr Pasik, M.S.

- Dr. Janet Hauck is an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology. Her work examines health behaviors and designing and implementing meaningful interventions targeting motor behaviors.
