Students are invited for a conversation with Dr. Adrian H. Huerta, Associate Professor at the Rossier School of Education and Keck School of Medicine, both at the University of Southern California. Huerta will share his experiences in navigating the road from undergraduate to graduate school. This program is part of First-Gen Friday, a monthly series of workshops and discussions focused on topics and themes centering on the experience of first-generation Spartans. This program is in partnership with MSU FLI and the Urban Educators Cohort Program.
Huerta is a leading expert on the social and academic experiences of active and former/inactive gang-involved people across the educational pipeline. Through sociocultural perspectives and qualitative methods, he examines individual and structural factors that impact college access and success, boys and men of color, student parents, and gang-involved populations.
