Join this inspiring Literacy Colloquy at Michigan State University on Saturday, November 1st. This event promises to be a valuable opportunity for educators and administrators from school districts to come together, explore new research insights, and engage in meaningful dialogue about literacy education.

Janice F. Almasi, the Carol Lee Robertson Endowed Professor of Literacy Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Kentucky, will be the keynote speaker. Her presentation, “Reading Comprehension: The Importance of Teaching Readers to Be Strategic,” will illuminate how children make meaning from text and the strategic processes they employ while reading—particularly within peer discussion contexts. Almasi will also highlight her current work as co–principal investigator on an IES-funded project developing a narrative comprehension intervention for third graders who struggle to understand text and are at risk for ADHD.

The colloquy is designed to offer a comprehensive look at the latest research findings in literacy education and provide practical recommendations for classroom and school-wide practices. Almasi’s presentation will delve into how to develop students’ declarative, procedural, and conditional knowledge to support the use of strategies. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions, engage in lively discussions, and network with peers who share a passion for advancing literacy in our schools.

Please note that this event is free of charge and will be held on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is recommended to secure your place at this anticipated event.
