Dr. Bryan Beverly (Ph.D., Michigan State University) is a lifelong Michigan 
resident, takes pride in the quality of education he received in public schools, and is 
passionate about providing similar experiences to students in today’s urban 
schools. He holds a Ph.D. in Education Policy from Michigan State University, is 
an alum and co-coordinator of the Michigan Education Policy Leadership Program
(EPLP), and is a former member of the Lansing Board of Education.

Dr. Beverly is currently the Director of the Office of K-12 Outreach in Michigan 
State University’s College of Education, where his work is centered on school turnaround efforts and instructional leadership. Before returning to MSU for his Ph.D., Dr. Beverly served as an education consultant for the KRA Corporation and the Lansing School District. He has also worked with the Presidents  Council of State Universities of Michigan; the State of Michigan, Office of the Governor; GEAR UP, MSU; and the Michigan Association of Counties. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology/anthropology from Olivet College and a master’s degree in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education from Michigan State University. Dr. Beverly is married to Christel, and they have four daughters.

Dr. John L. Lane is a qualitative researcher whose interests include the study of 
policy and reform implementation with a particular focus on ambitious 
instructional reforms. He has recently published in The American Educational 
Research Journal, Leadership and Policy in Schools, Teachers College Record
The Journal of Educational Change, and The Elementary School Journal
Presently, he is an Outreach Specialist for the Office of K-12 Outreach in 
Michigan State University’s College of Education. He is an alum and co-coordinator of the Michigan Education Policy Leadership Program (EPLP)

Tyler Thur is the Associate Director of Data and Evaluation for the Office of K-12 
Outreach in Michigan State University’s College of Education. His passion is 
incorporating data into the education policy-making process, district-level 
decisions, and school turnaround efforts via capacity building, program evaluation, 
and research. His interest in education policy comes from his time as an English 
Instructional Assistant, a high school and college policy debate coach, and a 
summer debate instructor at Georgetown University, Michigan State University,
the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Wyoming. He holds 
a Master of Public Policy degree from Michigan State University and a bachelor’s degree in international relations with minors in Jewish Studies and Science, Technology, Environment, and Public Policy (STEPP) from Michigan State University’s James Madison College and Honors College. He is an alum and co-coordinator of the Michigan Education Policy Leadership Program (EPLP). He also co-coordinates the Advanced Education Policy Leadership Program (AEPLP)

Dan Schultz is senior policy and program advisor for the Office of K-12 Outreach in the College of Education at Michigan State University. He also co-leads the Global Education Policy Fellowship Program, a partnership program with the Institute for Educational Leadership. His international experience includes organizing and leading study tours to China, India, Botswana, Bhutan, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. His background includes executive leadership and policy roles in state government in Michigan, where he was assistant state superintendent and director of technology and grants for the Michigan Department of Education. He holds academic degrees in economics and education administration, and for 38 years led the Michigan Education Policy Fellowship Program (MI EPLP). Dan is the recipient of the Institute for Educational Leadership’s National Leadership Award, the MSU College of Education Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award and the International Friendship Award from the Faculty of Education at China’s Southwest University.
