Committing to the Health & Well-being of Communities We Serve

Imagine if our outstanding Department of Kinesiology was able to expand the knowledge and space to ensure we have physically and mentally healthy communities. Imagine if students were able to not only learn their ABCs but are also taught to recognize and feel safe asking for the help they need for their mental health and well-being.

The Department of Kinesiology, based in the MSU College of Education, is developing researched-based programs that promote healthier lifestyles and wellness in our communities. These programs are being delivered with the help of our partners across our college, the campus and the state.

Our Story, So Far

IM Sports Circle, built in 1899, reminds us how long Spartans have been improving health and well-being. From our research spaces — including the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports (created in 1978) — to decades-long research projects, such as the Spartan Motor Performance Study, our impact is deep and enduring.

And our research doesn't just stand the test of time. Our Department of Kinesiology has a reputation as a center of excellence in the study of whole-child development, thanks to world-leading expertise.

Spartans are regarded as global leaders in concussion research, motor development, athletic training, the psychosocial aspects of sport and physical activity and more.
