Dr. Clifford E. Erickson Distinguished Chair in Education

Established in 2017 and based in the Department of Educational Administration, this chair is dedicated to pursuing research and scholarship in education policy and related fields.

Dr. Mildred B. Erickson Distinguished Chair in Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education

Dedicated to enhancing scholarship and to support activities consistent with the values and ideals of Dr. Mildred Erickson. Every three years, a Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education (HALE) faculty member is selected to hold this chair.

Endowed and Named Professors

Faculty who hold endowed or named professor positions are recognized thought leaders in their respective fields. They are known for contributing innovative research that makes a tangible different to practice. These roles are typically accompanied by funding (through donors in the case of Endowed Professors and through state or federal grants in the case of Named Professors) to further their research, expand their collaborations and continue offering diverse and impactful classroom experiences. 

John A. Hannah Distinguished Professors

John A. Hannah Distinguished Professors are educators who help to strengthen their disciplines as well as strengthen MSU’s ability to solve global problems through research, scholarship, creative activity, and teaching. Learn more on the MSU Honored Faculty website.

Lappan-Phillips Professors

Recognized leaders in their fields, Endowed Professors are distinguished in scholarship and practice, including an extensive body of research. Resources help them fund and further their research, build a network of collaborators, and deliver rich classroom experiences around the topics in which they specialize.

Red Cedar Distinguished Professors

The Red Cedar Distinguished Professor title is bestowed on Spartans who have made exceptional contributions to their respective fields. These titles also denote how their work promotes the institution’s research and creative activities. Individuals with these titles hold them for the duration of their service at MSU.

Research Foundation Distinguished Professors

Established in 2014 through the generosity of the MSU Research Foundation, the university awards the title "MSU Research Foundation Distinguished Professor" to selected current and new faculty who combine externally recognized, exemplary scholarly accomplishment with clear professional relevance to specific areas of MSU scholarly need, disciplinary development, or research or creative emphasis.
