Nine undergraduate students from the Michigan State University College of Education received first-place awards at the 2016 University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum (UURAF). The annual event, held this year on April 8, is an opportunity for students across the university to showcase their research and creativity.
Students presented work in a variety of categories—from engineering to psychology to the social sciences—in oral and poster presentations.
Approximately 850 total undergraduates from the university took part this year; 67 were from the College of Education. The college would like to congratulate the following first-place award recipients:
- Emma Dunn (French – Secondary Education) for her oral presentation, “The Influence of Explicit Teaching on the Acquisition of French Liaisons”
- Lauren Kosowski (Kinesiology) for her poster presentation, “The Relationship Between Academic Success and One-Year of Group Fitness and Intramural Sports Usage by Neighborhood Residents”
- Steven Maier (Kinesiology) for his poster presentation, “Exploring Unmediated Learning Behaviors of Swim Coaches”
- Alexandria Mazur (Biology – Secondary Education) for her oral presentation, “Interviews Provide Insight About Biology Student Learning Challenges Understanding Transcription”
- Sonny Metoki (Kinesiology), Derek Hart (Kinesiology) and Madeline Keller (Kinesiology) for their poster presentation, “Obstacles and Roles in Team Success”
- Erin Prim (English and History – Secondary Education) for her poster presentation, “Turning Pedagogy into Practice: Using Children’s Literature to Engage Multilingual College Writers”
- Alixandra Vanbuskirk (Educational Studies minor) and co-researcher Rikki McClelland for their poster presentation, “Co-Parenting and Toddler Characteristics Related to Behavioral Problems”
All students who receive first-place awards are eligible to submit their research for the grand prize award.
Participating students also received mentorship from college faculty within their respective departments.
