Spyros Konstantopoulos
Beginning July 1, 2015, MSU College of Education faculty Spyros Konstantopoulos and Joshua Cowen will become co-editors for the Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis (EEPA) journal.
Konstantopoulos, professor of measurement and quantitative methods, and Cowen, associate professor of education policy, will start reviewing manuscripts with two others this summer as the editing team for the EEPA journal. January 2016 marks their official start date for their three-year term as co-editors. The other editors–both former MSU faculty members–are Peter Youngs of the University of Virginia and Cassandra Guarino of Indiana University.

“It’s a very good ‘Go Green’ moment,” Cowen said. “This appointment says that MSU is an exciting place to do research.”
Konstantopoulos echoed his sentiments, saying, “This is a great opportunity. We have the power to shape what are the current trends and select what we think are the most rigorous research articles that will affect the field. We’re very happy and humbled with such an honor—but it is a suitable honor for a top college, such as the College of Education.”
The multidisciplinary journal has a heavy focus on theoretical, methodological or policy research geared toward individuals engaged in educational policy analysis, evaluation and decision-making.
The team of four editors applied together for the position for the quarterly journal, including their priorities and depth and breadth of knowledge in their application. They will work as equal collaborators, reading through submissions, editing and selecting for the prestigious journal. The EEPA journal has a 35-year history to its name, a competitive acceptance rate and a 2013 impact factor of 2.021. Impact factors measure the average amount of citations to recent articles published in the journal.
It isn’t the only journal that is being helmed by the College of Education: Sandra Crespo and Kristen Bieda are co-editing the Mathematics Teacher Educator journal, Patricia Edwards and Tanya Wright are leading the Michigan Reading Journal and the college was selected as the next editorial host for the Journal of Teacher Education.
