Each year, 10 faculty members are chosen to receive Teacher-Scholar Awards at the MSU Awards Convocation. Among this year’s recipients are Rebecca Jacobsen, assistant professor of teacher education, and Cary J. Roseth, assistant professor of educational psychology.

Both will receive the award at the all-university awards ceremony at MSU’s Wharton Center on Feb. 12 at 3:30 p.m.

Jacobsen is known throughout the college – and beyond – for innovative research and teaching techniques that bring awareness to many issues within the public education realm. Jacobsen’s scholarly research is nationally-recognized, and she has established herself as a leading expert on education policy and politics. Combined with community involvement and engagement, Jacobsen is a strong force for change within areas of school performance data and educational accountability policies.

Roseth boasts an impressive research record, having produced 27 publications in six years. He has been profiled, featured and publicized within the media, and his research has been featured in multiple, prestigious journals. Roseth fully integrates research methods into his teaching, bringing classes to life. His research primarily focuses on the development of conflict resolution in early childhood and on the effects of cooperation, competition and individualistic goal structures on children’s academic achievement, and peer relations. Roseth’s students and colleagues rely on him to cultivate better understanding from each perspective.

The Teacher-Scholar award is given to those faculty who, early in their careers, have earned the respect of students and colleagues. Each award recipient has displayed and proven their scholarly promise, devotion and skill in teaching.
