Michael Leahy, director of the Office of Rehabilitation and Disability Studies at the Michigan State University’s College of Education, has been honored with the third place American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA) Research Award for a recent article in the Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling.
The article, “Predictors of employment outcomes for persons with disabilities: An integrative review of potential evidence-based factors,” was also written by J. Saunders, C. McGlynn and N. Estrada-Hernandez. JARC is the official publication of the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association and features articles on rehabilitation counseling techniques, legislation and practices.
Leahy received the award on March 23 at the ARCA reception at the American Counseling Association’s annual conference in Detroit.
Leahy has contributed greatly to the success of the MSU rehabilitation counseling program, which was recently ranked No. 1 in the nation in U.S. News & World Report magazine’s 2008 Best Graduate Programs issue. His continuing research interests include professional competency development and education, regulation of practice, vocational assessment, disability and rehabilitation policy, case management practices, outcomes and evidenced-based practices in rehabilitation counseling.
