The Master of Arts in Educational Technology Program at Michigan State University is honored to support the amazing work that educators are doing around the world as they transition to a range of remote teaching contexts. Our Mini-MOOC on Remote Teaching focuses on high-priority, digestible topics with the intent of applying them to practice tomorrow. Because educators are teaching across a range of remote teaching contexts, we include no-tech, low-tech, and high-tech strategies throughout the experience.

How to enroll if you are not a member of the MSU community
- Create an MSU Guest Community ID.
- You will receive an email at the address you provided. By following the link in the email, you can create a password and activate your ID.
- It may take up to 15 minutes for the system to sync, but once it does, you will be able to self-enroll in the Mini-MOOC by following this self-enrollment link. When prompted to log in, type the full email address for your Community ID into the box that says, “MSU NETID” and type the password that you set up into the password box.
- Click the “Enroll” button that appears under “Enrollment Status.” *If you receive an error message, it just means that the system doesn’t recognize your new ID yet. Wait a few minutes and try again.
- On this self-enrollment page, you can follow the “Course Home Page” link to be taken to the course and can click on the “Content” tab to start your learning journey.
- You may be prompted to log into D2L, the learning management system at MSU. Click the login button and see if full login information is required again. If not, it will take you directly to the Mini-MOOC. You can access the Mini-MOOC at any time through the D2L link and your Community ID email and password.
How to enroll if you are a member of the MSU community
- Follow this self-enrollment link to enroll in the course. Log in using your MSU NetID and password. Perform the two-factor authentication if needed.
- Click the “Enroll” button that appears under “Enrollment Status.”

Professional Development (PD) Hours and Potential Credit Info
Educators outside of Michigan:
Because every region’s licensure and renewal program is different, we recommend reaching out to someone in your school or district who is a Professional Development (PD) provider or authorizer to see if your school or district will accept the Mini-MOOC experience as district-provided PD hours if your region does not already have guidance for PD experiences like this. We estimate that each unit takes about 2 hours to complete, for a total of 16 PD hours upon completion of the entire Mini-MOOC. A certificate of participation is available in Unit 8 to submit as proof of participation. If your school or district has any questions as they consider approving the Mini-MOOC for PD hours, we are happy to answer their questions at email@example.com.
The Michigan Department of Education has approved a maximum of 16 SCHECHs for Michigan educators who participate in the Mini-MOOC. In order to receive 16 SCHECHs, you must do the following:
- Complete all 8 units in the Mini-MOOC and post to Unit 1 – 8 discussion boards. (Your login record will be submitted to MDE as proof of attendance.)
- Make a copy and complete the SCHECHs information sheet. Scanned, digital, and typed signatures will be accepted. Send your completed and signed form to firstname.lastname@example.org.
SCHECHs paperwork and your D2L login records will be reviewed and submitted for processing in batches on the last day of the month, through December, 2020. If you have any questions, please email us at email@example.com.
