Choosing a Concentration and Selecting Courses


This degree has three concentrations: coaching, sport management, and strength and conditioning. Ideally, you should choose your concentration area before you apply to the program, but there is some flexibility once you have begun the program. Concentration requirements with course numbers are listed on the Office of Registrar's website; full course descriptions can be found on the Requirements page.

Two of the following Psychosocial Cognate courses (6 credits):   

  • KIN 846 Sociocultural Issues for Sport Practitioners
  • KIN 849B Organizational Behavior in Sport
  • KIN 849 Theory and Practice of Modern Sport Leadership
  • KIN 855 Psychosocial Bases of Coaching Athletes
  • KIN 855P Psychosocial Aspects of Athletic Performance

Certificates

We offer three fully online graduate certificate programs designed for current or future sport practitioners. A graduate certificate is a viable stand-alone credential but is also an ideal add-on to a master’s degree program in teaching, educational administration, counseling, and other fields. These programs provide an opportunity for students to explore the concentration areas within the Applied Sport Sciences program without committing to the full curriculum. 
 

Sport Coaching Certificate

Looking to improve your coaching skills without committing to a full master’s degree? Our fully online 10-credit graduate certificate in sport science helps coaches at all levels develop essential coaching techniques and sport science knowledge.
