Call for Poster Abstracts
Several poster sessions will be held at the conference. These presentations should be data-based, theoretical, or research review papers that have not been previously published in an archival scientific publication or presented elsewhere at a national or international conference are eligible for submission.
Poster Abstract Submission Timeline
Poster abstracts submissions for the 2018 ISYS 40th Anniversary conference will remain open until October 1, 2018. Decisions on accepted abstracts are anticipated by October 15.

Poster abstracts should be submitted in a word file and contain no more than 300 words. Using 12 point Times Roman font. Please adhere to the following example or consider downloading the abstract template.
The Philosophical and Psychological Development of a Coach: A Case Study

Coaches play an important role in the psychological development of their athletes (Gilbert & Cote, 2013). Sport psychology researchers have not examined the psychological, philosophical and philosophical-psychological development link in great coaches. This presentation reports on a case study of an outstanding wrestling coach, J Robinson, one of the most respected and successful NCAA wrestling coaches in the United States. He is also the founder of J Robinson Intensive Wrestling camps. These camps not only focus on wrestling skills but the development of mental skills and are aimed at high school youth. Robinson���s camps have been shown to foster short and long term psychological development in its youth participants (Driska, Gould, Pierce & Cowburn, 2017; Pierce, Gould, Cowburn, & Driska, 2016). In-depth interviews at several points in time with Robinson were conducted, including one that took place 30 years before the time of the study. These were supplemented with interviews with camp staff and observations of the camp and Robinson���s coaching at the camp. Results revealed that Robinson had a clearly defined philosophy, was very intentional in terms of developing mental skills, had a well-developed system for fostering mental skills development and had clear rationales that guided his coaching actions. His philosophy and approach to developing psychological skills in youth evolved over 35 years of implementing these camps and from Robinson���s own life experiences. These included his family���s work ethic, own sport participation including a devastating 4th place finish in the 1972 Olympics, his and other coaches, Army special forces training, significant others , reading about history and leadership and participation in psychological seminars. His ability to reflect on and grow from his experiences and his emotional intelligence seemed to be critical to his success. Implications for studying coach development and the psychology of coaching are provided.

The maximum poster size is 4 x 4 ft. (122 x 122 cm). Presenters will receive instructions to post their posters prior to their session and will need to be present at their poster to interact with attendees for the designated time period (typically 1 or 2 hours).
