We are happy to announce Dr. Dan Gould as a presenter for this year’s Summer Coaches’ School. Dan serves as the director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports at Michigan State University. He has been studying coaches and coaching effectiveness for over three decades.
“Coaches were instrumental in my life both on and off the field. They taught me lessons I continue to use to this day.” This experience made Dan want to give back, and it has stoked his passion for helping coaches throughout his career.
Dan focuses much of his work on helping coaches to develop their athlete’s mental games. Dan’s experience in the field of applied sports psychology has helped teams, players, and coaches learn and grow in the mental aspects of the game.
Throughout his career, Dan has worked with a variety of Olympic teams, performed research with Olympic level athletes, and wrote a number of books, including The Foundations of Sport and Exercise Psychology. He has conducted coaching leadership workshops for business leaders from major corporations like Oracle and Deutsche Bank helping them lead their teams to high performance.

Dan is an author of the most used textbook in the field of sports psychology.
At this year’s Summer Coaches’ School, Dan will be helping you to develop your philosophy and vision as a coach. His presentations will be interactive and designed to get you thinking about your own program and what you want to see for its future.
“Great coaches are transformational leaders who empower and inspire their athletes. They do this by building programs based on sound philosophies and clear visions, and they articulate major goals.”
Dan’s expertise in this field is a benefit to everyone who gets to hear him speak. We are excited to have him presenting, and we hope you will have the opportunity to chat with him at this year’s event.
The 2017 Summer Coaches’ School takes place June 19-20 at the Brody Center at MSU. The cost is $125 for both days (or $75 for a single day). For a limited time, you can register 4 coaches from one school or club for the price of 3.
