Each week, we ask a member of the College of Education grad student community to share three picks related to one of their passions. This week’s feature is Emily Bouck, Interim Associate Dean for Research and Special Education Program Director.
I have essentially two hobbies—coaching youth sports (my biggest passion being coaching my daughter in youth softball) and reading. I don’t have a lot to share about youth sports coaching, except unsolicited pictures of me getting dumped on by my team with water after a zero-loss season this summer or video of me attempting to teach my girls how to slide. That being said, I will share some of my favorite current authors that I binge-read, of which I enjoy fiction:
- Margaret Atwood: While I love most all of her work, my definite favorite is the MaddAddam Trilogy. If you like The Handmaid’s Tale, you can also check out the adaptation of her book Alias Grace on Netflix.
- Jodi Picoult: It is super hard to pick my favorite Jodi Picoult book; I essentially pre-order and attempt to read the whole thing within the first 48 hours of getting it. I guess I would recommend Wish You Were Here (her 2021 novel).
- Kristin Hannah: Hands down my favorite Kristin Hannah book is The Great Alone, which takes place in Alaska, followed by The Four Winds (which is such a better read about the Dust Bowl era than The Grapes of Wrath).
