CED DEI: APIDA/A Solidarity with Other Racialized Communities
Feb. 28, 12:30 p.m. 
Hosted by the College of Education’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and the APIDA/A Solidarity, Coalition and Justice Initiative, this session will feature six panelists from across the university and more who will engage in conversations around solidarity with other racialized communities. VIRTUAL EVENT: Register to attend via Zoom

Youth Dealing with Trauma: A Panel Discussion on What Educators and Parents/Guardians Can Do
Feb. 28, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Panelists: Curtis Lewis (Department of Teacher Education), Greta McHaney (Resolution Services Center of Central Michigan), Brandon Lane (Black Male Educators Alliance). Moderator: Terry Flennaugh. This event is part of the College of Education’s Trauma in Our Lives, Schools, and in Homes Series. VIRTUAL EVENT: Register to attend via Zoom

Examining Policing in Society & Schools: Making a Case for Abolition
March 2, 1:30 to 3 p.m. Dr. Mei-Ling Malone is a professor of African American Studies at California State University, Fullerton. She also serves as the faculty advisor for Black Student Union and for the Afro-Ethnic Students Association on campus. Dr. Malone received her doctorate from UCLA in Urban Schooling where she researched the school-to-prison pipeline.This event is part of the College of Education’s Trauma in Our Lives, Schools, and in Homes Series. VIRTUAL EVENT: Register to attend via Zoom

MSU Museum First Fridays for College Students: Spring Wellness
March 3, 7 to 9 p.m. 
MSU Museum invites college students to come together at the MSU Museum for a night of crafts, board games, chair massages, therapy dogs, and pizza. There will also be relaxing guided meditation in our Science on a Sphere Gallery. Learn more via MSU Museum

MSU Broad Art Museum Family Day
March 4, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
 Make creative connections with our exhibitions through free hands-on and interactive family fun throughout the museum. Learn more via MSU Broad


Opportunities

Immersive Visualization Institute (IVI) Graduate Fellows
This hybrid summer institute allows a cohort of faculty and graduate students to explore the pedagogic possibilities of three exciting large-scale immersive visualization display platforms available at MSU:

  • The Abrams Planetarium
  • 360 Degree Panoramic Display Space in the Library’s Digital Scholarship Lab
  • Science On a Sphere at the MSU Museum

IVI Graduate Fellows will learn about the affordances and limitations of each technology and how they are best suited for different types of visual representation. Applicants are invited from across the entire university, and all disciplines and interdisciplinary perspectives are welcome. Graduate students may apply individually or with a faculty member mentor. Selection is competitive and limited to 15 graduate students. A $500 stipend is awarded to participating students. Apply by: March 17. Learn more via MSU Museum

Graduate Teaching Assistant Preparation: Save The Date
Attention: Graduate Teaching Assistants
The 2023-24 GTA Preparation Program (Aug. 15, 16, 23) has workshops and sessions for graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) in any role (new and returning). Grad students who will be teaching either in the Fall 2023 or Spring 2024 semesters should mark their calendars for all or any of the three days. Registration begins April 15.
