Events

Shaping the Future of MSU Town Hall Sessions
The University Facilities and Land Use Plan team is holding a series of Town Hall events in early November. Each session will focus on four thematic stations: student experience, academic research and excellence, open space and environment, and mobility. There are in-person (Nov. 9 and 10) and virtual options (Nov. 14) options. Learn more via msu.edu

Virtual Lunch & Learn: Learner-Centered Teaching
Attention: Graduate Teaching Assistants
Nov. 9, 12 to 1 p.m. This session will introduce principles of student-centered teaching and share methods to engage students using collaborative techniques, reflective practices and effective note-taking strategies. Registration required. VIRTUAL EVENT: Learn more via The Graduate School

Navigating the PhD Workshops
Attention: Doctoral
Nov. 11, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. & 1 to 4 p.m. 
These interactive writing workshops are designed to help you develop an individualized plan for graduate writing, especially comprehensive exams, dissertation proposals and dissertations. Session 1 (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) is designed for students in the early years of their Ph.D. study and Session 2 (1 to 4 p.m.) is for students in the latter years. Broad to the Future
Nov. 11, 7 to 9 p.m. 
Broad Museum is going ‘Broad to the Future’ for their birthday: tarot card readings to scavenger hunts, screen printing, time capsules, snacks and giveaways. Learn more via The Broad Museum

Negotiating Your Next Best Offer
Nov. 14, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Games & Learning For Educators
Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m.
 Have you considered using games to support learning, but aren’t sure where to start? Join members of the M.A. in Educational Technology community to see how they’re using games and play in different educational contexts – from designing their own games to integrating gameful elements into the curriculum. Registration required. VIRTUAL EVENT: Register to attend via Zoom

Electronic Theses and Dissertation Deadlines
Deadlines for Electronic Theses and Dissertations are coming up:

  • Submission Deadline: Dec. 1, 5 p.m. Each semester has a deadline for the initial submission of theses and dissertations to ProQuest. The document submitted to ProQuest is expected to be a final version, meaning it has been successfully defended, corrections made and there are no more content changes.
  • Final Deadline: Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. Documents have been accepted and delivered for publishing, all required paperwork has been turned in, all milestones have been completed and all degree audits have been completed.

Deadline Extended: MSU IT AT&T Awards
Attention: Teaching Assistants
The deadline to apply for the AT&T Excellence in Teaching with Technology Awards has been extended. Anyone teaching a for-credit course at MSU is eligible to apply. Faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants can submit applications until Nov. 14. Learn more via the Graduate School

PhD Career Training Platform
Attention: Doctoral
All doctoral students and postdocs at MSU have access to the PhD Career Training Platform, which provides access to curriculum that will help you confidently job search in academia and beyond. Learn more via The Graduate School

Immersive Visualization Institute
The annual “Immersive Visualization Institute (IVI)” brings together diverse groups of graduate students and faculty centered around data visualization. Participants investigate innovative and interdisciplinary ideas for capitalizing on one or more of the platforms within the ecosystem and produce a participation outcome using the technologies. The Immersive Visualization Institute will be offered in Summer 2023 with applications opening in February. Learn more via the Graduate School

Call for Submissions: Student Visual Arts
The College of Education’s Office of Academic & Student Affairs is seeking student art for a year-long exhibition in Erickson Hall. All students are welcome to submit. Indicate your intent to submit via Qualtrics by Nov. 30. Learn more via the College of Education

MSU IT Technology Trainings
