2026 ACE Teaching Table Talk: And Justice For All

TE 101: Social Foundations of Justice and Equity in Education is a required course for all education majors at Michigan State University and fulfills requirements for several minors across campus. In 2024-25, the course served more than 500 students across 27 sections, engaging learners in critical examinations of U.S. schooling through lenses of equity, justice, abolition, resistance, and freedom-dreaming. This presentation explores an ongoing curriculum redesign initiative aimed at ensuring the course remains responsive to the evolving political, social, and educational realities facing students and instructors. Drawing on instructor reflection, curriculum review, and emerging scholarship, the project examines opportunities to revise course topics, readings, and learning experiences while maintaining a strong commitment to justice-oriented teacher education. The presentation highlights the collaborative redesign process and discusses the development of updated course materials, including a revised course calendar and shared D2L shell implementation for future TE 101 sections.
