On behalf of the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education, we hope you can join us for a Festschrift event honoring our dear colleague William (“Bill”) Schmidt who passed away in May 2025.
Bill joined the Michigan State College of Education in 1969. He was the founder and director of the Center for the Study of Curriculum Policy and was the longtime director of the Ph.D. program in Measurement and Quantitative Methods. A member of the National Academy of Education and distinguished fellow of numerous organizations, his work shaped mathematics and science education and educational policy around the world. Join us May 7, 2026 to engage in a day of scholarly presentations and discussions with prominent, internationally recognized researchers and policymakers whose work demonstrates and honors Bill’s profound impact on educational research, policy and practice across the globe.

Presentations and discussion will be held from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm on May 7, 2026. Light breakfast (beginning at 9:00 am) and lunch will be provided. There will also be a brief reception at the conclusion of presentations at 4:30. This will be an in-person event.The event will be recorded and a link to the video will be shared to all invited guests following the event.
Parking
The address for Erickson Hall is 620 Farm Lane, East Lansing, MI 48824. Events will take place in the first floor lobby area and in the Kiva, also located on the first floor. Public parking (pay-by-plate) is available in Lot 39, just south of the International Center (427 N. Shaw Lane). Erickson Hall is approximately a four-minute walk from the lot.Accommodations & Questions
