Our M.A. program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling takes 3.5 years full-time to complete depending on the pace of student course and credit hour completion.
No, many of the M.A. students in a similar counseling program participate in the program on a part-time basis.
Most of our M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling courses are scheduled one time per week in a 3-hour block format. The exception is the practicum and internship courses that require students to fulfill their clinical hours at a community agency that is not part of a class and those hours may not be once a week in a 3-hour block.
Yes, our M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program includes some courses that are offered in full online format. In addition, some of our courses are offered in hybrid format and include portions of the course in-person on campus and portions that are completed via online technology. Further, all of our courses involve some aspect of technology to enhance the student learning experience.
Some students seek funding support in the form of student loans via the MSU Office of Financial Aid. Students also seek support via College of Education and general university scholarships and assistantship. Students are also able to apply for federal student loans. Graduates in the M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program are equipped to obtain employment in a wide variety of settings including mental health facilities, addictions clinics, family centers, university centers, school districts, hospitals, rehabilitation centers that have a focus in mental health and wellness, workers compensation settings, and community-based rehabilitation programs.
Following the February 15 application deadline, program faculty review application files, interview select program applicants and make admissions decisions. Students are admitted to starting the MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program during the fall semester of the next MSU academic year.
