Student Advising Office Hours

  • Monday – Tuesday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM; 1:00PM – 5:00 PM – in-person and virtual services available
  • Wednesday – Friday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM; 1:00 – 5:00 PM – virtual services only

Academic Advising

Academic advising is available for students to discuss their academic needs with an advisor. Schedule an appointment through the online system or by clicking the "Schedule Appointment" button. Indicate Zoom or in-person preference when scheduling.

Major Changes

If you want to change your major, you must first meet with an academic advisor.

Schedule an Academic Advising Appointment

Advisors release appointment availability on a rolling basis, allowing students to book appointments up to two weeks in advance. Schedules can fill quickly, especially during open enrollment. Be sure to schedule well in advance of your enrollment date.

In addition to scheduled appointments, advisors see students during scheduled drop-in advising hours.

Schedule Appointment
Need to cancel an appointment?
  • Login into scheduling system (Note that you will be required to set up two-factor authentication in order to sign in) and password
  • Select the Academic Progress tile
  • Click the tab on the left, labeled Advising/Tutoring Appointment
  • Under My Appointments, select the appointment you want to cancel
  • Scroll down and click Cancel Appointment
Need to schedule an appointment?
  • Login into the scheduling system with your NetID and password (Note that you will be required to set up two-factor authentication to sign in)
  • Select the Academic Progress tile
  • Click the tab on the left, labeled Advising/Tutoring Appointments
  • Click Create New Appointment in the upper right corner
  • Category: choose Advising
  • Advising/Tutoring Unit: select College of Education
  • Appointment Reason: click on the search magnifier icon to select from the choices given
  • Additional Information: include further details to help the advisor prepare for your appointment (required)
  • Appointment Type: select in-person or Zoom. (There is more availability for in-person than zoom)
  • Click on Select Advisor
  • Click the Time Selected drop-down menu to view available times
  • Click on Select Time to confirm the appointment
  • Click Book It!”

Appointments for high school students and prospective transfer students can be scheduled by calling (517) 353-9680.
 

Career Advising

Career advising is available through the MSU Career Services Network. Students can meet with the College of Education’s Career Advisor, Kathy Dietzel, for help with resumes and cover letters, graduate school planning, exploring career options, job searches, interview strategies, and more. Schedule a career advising appointment with Kathy using Handshake.

Schedule a Career Advising Appointment

Students outside the College of Education can meet with the college’s career advisor through Interest Area Advising. Once in Handshake, follow these steps:  

  1. Select “Career Center”
  2. Click “Schedule an Appointment”
  3. Choose “Interest Area Career Advising”
  4. Click on “Education and Public Services” or “Health Sciences”  
  5. Look for available appointments with Kathy Dietzel

Drop-in Advising

Peer Advisors and Academic Advisors are available to meet with Teacher Preparation and Kinesiology students for quick questions about classes, study strategies, scheduling planning, enrollment assistance, campus resources, and more during scheduled drop-in advising.

Kinesiology Peer Advising Drop-in times (in person only – Erickson Hall Room 134):

Drop-in advising for Kinesiology peer advising will return in August 2026. Please check back, at that time, for our specific drop-in times for the first week of fall classes.

          Looking for the Undergrad Associate/Assistant Dean in Your College?

          If you need help with administrative issues related to university policies and procedures (for example, a Grief Absence request) and you’ve been referred to your Associate/Assistant Dean or Academic Dean, please contact Dr. Kristy Chene, the Director of Undergraduate Student Affairs in the College of Education.
