Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Faculty, staff, and graduate students with appointment are eligible to use Virtual Private Network (VPN) free of charge. MSU VPN service enables you to connect securely back to campus network. This allows you to connect to on-campus resources such as server folders or Remote Desktop.

To use MSU VPN

Step 1: Download and install Pulse application

For Apple user, please find the download link and installation guide from this page.

For Windows PC user, please find the download link and installation guide from this page.

When prompted, provide your NetID to download.

After you download the installer, run the installer to install Pulse program.

Step 2: Start VPN (For the first time, you need to add a VPN connection, where you enter server URL as: vpn.msu.edu)

For external collaborators, if your NetID is (f000******), please choose CampusAD when asked to select a Realm.

Step 3: Now you can access resources that are available to MSU local network, such as your files in MSU servers. Your storage location and connection method will be provided to you.

A few things to remember:

  • Disconnect VPN whenever you do not need it.
  • Do not save password. Type it in every time.
  • Make sure your computer has up-to-date antivirus protection.
