Our program tailors coursework to meet our students’ individual interests while focusing on the program goals of:
We believe that teachers want to make a difference! Teachers in the MATC program are dedicated, dynamic professionals who not only desire to expand their knowledge and repertoires; they want to make a difference in their students’ lives and learning.
MATC students assume a variety of collaborative leadership roles and responsibilities in their schools, districts and beyond. They are a credit to Michigan State University and the teaching profession. Their strong commitment to improving their practice and students’ opportunities to learn in meaningful ways—coupled with our interest in helping teachers learn from theory, research, practice and each other—make the difference!
Please note that the MATC program does not lead to initial teacher certification.

Learn to ask and answer tough questions in education.
Expand your knowledge, skills and repertoire as an educator.
Take action beyond the classroom.
Nearly 20 K-12 teachers returned to the classroom as MATC students this year, supported by a new partnership between the College of Education and Rockford Public Schools.
Funded by the Michigan Department of Education “Grow Your Own” program, these educators joined the MATC program, allowing them to earn their master’s degrees, additional teaching endorsements, and new skills and specialty areas.
By the Numbers
Focusing on theory, research and education, this specialization is for students who wish to address issues of language and literacy development.
This is the first fully online specialization in the state focusing on teaching English as a second language (ESL).
The MATC program could be the next step in your education. Utilizing nine (9) of the credits that you earn through your internship, up to 30%* of the degree is already completed. That amounts to nearly $13,000 in cost savings!
