Michigan State University now ranks 13th in the nation for best online master’s degree programs in education, according to the latest ranking from U.S. News & World Report. MSU has moved up 10 spaces since 2013, when it was ranked number 23. In 2014, it was ranked 18th in the nation.
Education is one of several disciplines ranked by U.S. News & World Report for online programs, including business, engineering, nursing, computer information technology and criminal justice. The rankings for education are created based on various factors: student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, peer reputation and admissions selectivity. Points for each institution on a scale of 0-100 are calculated by aggregating data about students, faculty and practices across these programs; an emphasis is placed on the program with the largest enrollment.
The MSU College of Education currently offers five fully online master’s degree programs, including the Master of Arts in Education (MAED); Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET); Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education (HALE); Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum (MATC) and Master of Arts in Special Education.
This year MSU tied with four other institutions with a score of 84/100: University of Florida, University of Northern Colorado, University of Scranton and Utah State University. MSU joins five other universities from Michigan that are on the published list of 179 top-ranked programs.
