The BIP Courses are designed to allow students from across various programs in the university participate in courses that are inspired to allow students to be physically active, learn a new sport, and engage with students and instructors from diverse backgrounds.
BIP course are most often single credit (1 credit) courses. A student may earn a maximum of 8 credits in all BIP enrollments for these courses. The only way to repeat a course is if the course is in a different context. Students are limited to a combined total of 8 credits in KIN 101-109 and KIN 111-118.
All BIP courses are participation-based courses and therefore we have a Departmental Attendance Policy for KIN 101-118 courses:
A student must meet the minimum attendance requirement to pass these courses. Students may only miss a maximum of 4 course hours for the entire semester and this includes any time lost for late adds into the course, sickness, or any other reason. For KIN 101-109, failure to meet these requirements will result in a No Grade (NG) for the course. For KIN 111 – 118, failure to meet these requirements will result in a 0.0.
We strive to offer a variety of BIP courses so that all students can find an activity they enjoy. Each course has varying equipment requirements, and may have additional fees associated with them. BIP courses are likely to change from semester to semester. Please visit the MSU “Schedule of Courses” website for current offerings and any supplemental information. Here is a list of courses that have been offered in previous years:
Beginning level courses (KIN 101 – 109) are graded on a Pass / No Grade (P / NG) basis. These courses are designed to give you introductory knowledge and basic skills for each of the sports / activities:
More advanced level courses (KIN 111 – 118) are graded on a points-based scale (0.0 – 4.0). These courses are designed to build on prior knowledge and experience and to improve upon skills for each of the sports / activities. When looking at the Schedule of Courses, please ensure you read the pre-requisites for these courses:
Please contact the BIP Coordinators for any questions about the BIP courses or any issues that arise during the course of the semester.
