Amanda Jansen, PhD 2004 (Educational Psychology), has been awarded the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) 2014 Early Career award. Jansen will receive the award on February 8 at AMTE’s annual conference in Irvine, Cal.

Jansen is currently an associate professor in the School of Education at the University of Delaware. Her research focuses on understanding the motivation and engagement of mathematics learners, from their perspectives, and on the learning of mathematics teachers. Prior to receiving her PhD at MSU, she served as a mathematics teacher in Mesa, Ariz.

As a recipient of the award, Jansen will write an article for publication in AMTE’s summer 2014 newsletter.

Given annually, the Early Career award recognizes a mathematics teacher educator who, while early in his/her career, has made distinguished contributions and shows exceptional potential for leadership in the areas of teaching, service and research.
