Professor Emeritus Herbert M. Burks, Jr., who was part of the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education (CEPSE) for 25 years, died on May 17, 2012. He was 84.

Burks joined the faculty in 1969 and retired in 1994. He is survived by his wife Mary, who he lived with in Haslett, Mich.

Mary Burks said Herb met regularly, nearly every Monday at Coral Gables Restaurant, with many of his fellow retired colleagues from CEPSE.

A celebration of his life will be held on June 22 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home in East Lansing. Visitation begins at 1 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m.

Per Dr. Burks’ wishes, his ashes will be released near his childhood home in West Virginia. Read his full obituary for more information.
