For nearly 30 years, the National Awards Program for Academic Advising has recognized outstanding professionals in the field of academic advising. This year, Shannon Burton, current HALE doctoral student and academic advising specialist in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University, received the NACADA Student Research Award in the Doctoral degree category.

Burton was recognized for her research, “Building the Bridge: A Phenomenological Examination of Academic Advising’s Role in Campus Internationalization.” Burton also received her master’s degree in student affairs administration from the College of Education in 2002. 

The award will be presented to Burton during the NACADA Annual Conference in Denver this fall.

NACADA is a non-profit education association that has more than 10,000 members, comprised of faculty, students, professional advisors, administrators, counselors and others who share a common goal of providing excellent academic advising in higher education. Aside from its awards program, NACADA also offers a consulting and speaker service and funding for research.
