Description
The title of University Distinguished Professor is conferred on selected members of the Michigan State University faculty to recognize distinguished achievement in teaching, research and public service. The designation is highly honorific and very exclusive.

Distinguished Faculty Award
Description
This award recognizes faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to the intellectual development of the university. The award is based on a comprehensive and sustained record of scholarly excellence in research or creative activities, instruction, and public service.
Nomination Procedures
The Department of Kinesiology is permitted to nominate one candidate for the Distinguished Faculty Award each year. Nominations are submitted by faculty or students to the Faculty Advisory Committee. Credentials for the most qualified nominee are forwarded to the College of Education and subsequently to the University. Nomination forms and further information about the award are available on the Provost’s web site.

Teacher Scholar Award
Description
The award is presented to junior faculty members who have demonstrated dedication and skill in teaching, as well as promise of becoming outstanding scholars.

Excellence in Diversity Award
Description
The award is presented to students who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the value of diversity or multiculturalism within the University or outside the University community. Specific examples can include initiatives/programs that explore a range of themes such as diversity of cultures, religions, and abilities and are programs that have become a part of the University’s infrastructure and are sustainable.

College of Education Awards
Excellence in Teaching Award
Description
The Excellence in Teaching Award presented by the College of Education is presented annually to four faculty members and four graduate students who have demonstrated that their teaching and advising practices are thoughtful and effective. The Award serves as a public reminder of the commitment by the College of Education to high quality teaching. In addition, the dissemination of innovative teaching practices and materials contributes to the quality of instruction by all faculty and teaching assistants. This award was established in 2005.

Fellows in the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education
Description
The American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education is an honorary organization composed of individuals who have made significant contributions to the fields of kinesiology and physical education. Membership is limited to 150 active fellows. To be inducted into the Academy, an individual must demonstrate significant contributions to the scholarly and professional literature over a period of at least 10 years and demonstrate significant contributions of leadership to the profession.
