ESPN’s Emmy Award-winning investigative series, Outside the Lines and host Bob Ley, tackled the issue of paying 10 and 11-year-olds for big hits on a California Pop Warner team. Dr. Lauer was invited to have a panel discussion with Ley and Dave Zirin, renowned sports writer.

Dr. Lauer talked about how the potential exists for adults to rationalize very inappropriate behaviors such as paying for big hits and taking diuretics when a professional culture of “winning at all costs” exists. He also noted that much pressure exists on youth to compete, practice, and travel at young ages and issues in youth sport are anecdotally on the rise.
