Counseling Services
MSU’s Counseling & Psychiatric Services
continues to maintain an online hub of campus/virtual supports that is updated daily. All students have access to a 24/7crisis line by calling our main line (517) 355-8270 and press “1” when prompted to speak with a crisis counselor.

Working Together Session for CED Grad Students
Feb. 28, 1 to 2 p.m.
Getting back to work after a tragedy has a lot of unique challenges. You may feel that your cognitive, emotional, and physical capacities have been stretched beyond their limit—and you still have work to get done for your program, assistantships, etc. This session will be focused on building skills to help regain our ability to focus and manage our stress while leaving extra room in our lives for taking care of ourselves and others. We can do it, but we cannot do it alone. 116-H Erickson Hall
Save The Date: A second session will be held March 14, 1 to 2 p.m., in 217 IM Circle.

Virtual Guided Meditation Sessions for CED Graduate Students
Associate Dean Kristine Bowman is hosting two guided meditation sessions for College of Education grad students. These sessions will last about 10 minutes and you are invited to stay on the call to chat (about other resources or supports you’d like to see, how you’re feeling, or anything else that’s on your mind). If you’d just like to drop-in to chat, sign onto the Zoom call about 15 minutes into the session:

  • March 1, 4 to 4:30 p.m. The guided meditation will begin at 4 p.m. and last about 10 minutes (stay or drop-in to meet with Kristine). VIRTUAL EVENT: Attend via Zoom (passcode: yoga)
  • March 2, 10 to 10:30 a.m. The guided meditation will begin at 10 a.m. and last about 10 minutes (stay or drop-in to meet with Kristine). VIRTUAL EVENT: Attend via Zoom (passcode: yoga)

CED Crisis Management Briefings
Last week, Academic & Student Affairs and the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion hosted a series of events that focused on responses to trauma, learning coping strategies, navigating crisis, and providing resources for support services. Watch a recording via Mediaspace. Information on debriefing sessions that will focus on responses to trauma, coping strategies and navigating a crisis is forthcoming. In the meantime:

Healing Through Yoga
The MSU Center for Survivors will be holding Healing through Yoga, a virtual, drop-in, trauma-informed yoga practice to promote healing and wellness. The sessions will be held on Thursdays at 3 p.m. from March 16 to April 27. It is open to students, staff, faculty and community members.

Resources for Teaching After Crisis
Through the #iTeach website, there are numerous 1:1 and small group opportunities for instructional support, such as teaching after a crisis, making course adjustments, how to engage with students facing trauma and other options. These resources are for instructors, advisors, teaching assistants and anyone else offering or needing support for students in the classroom. This resource for the College of Arts & Letters focuses on addressing student mental health concerns in online classes.

SafeMSU App
Designed with input from students, faculty and staff, the SafeMSU App provides access to valuable safety resources direct to Spartan’s hands. A key feature of the app is the virtual friend walk. This function allows Spartans to share their location with a friend in real-time so they can follow their progress to their destination. The friend can also contact police immediately if they feel there is a problem.
