Higher, Adult & Lifelong Education doctoral student Kirby R. Gibson recently received the 2024 Emerging Leader Award from MSU’s Women of Color Community. The award celebrates Kirby’s work on the Anti-Racist Path Series planning team and advising on curriculum development for the MSU Dialogues program.

Zhamilya Yessirkepova, a K-12 Educational Administration doctoral student, was recently elected as the chair of Capital Area Community Services Head Start Policy Council and as a member of the Capital Area Community Services Board of Directors. CACS Head Start is an organization that provides services to about 900 children and their families across four counties: Ingham, Eaton, Clinton and Shiawassee.
CITE doctoral student Joel Berends and alum Brittany Jones were published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for their op-ed titled “Doc Rivers is a proven NBA coach. He’s an even better historian and anti-racist.”
