Support for Doctoral Students Who Are Full-Time Employees

This funding program is for doctoral students who are employed full-time. Eligible students can apply for awards up to $1,500 per round of grant funding for expenses. Individual and Group applications are open. View requirements and application details via PDF

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship
The Asian Studies Center offers FLAS Fellowships for modern Asian language and area studies to support specialists in education, government, and public services. Graduate students can apply for Academic Year (AY) fellowships, providing up to $18,000 in tuition payments and a stipend of up to $20,000. Ph.D. candidates at the dissertation stage may use the fellowship for research abroad, with dissertation writing at their U.S. institution. Learn more via Asian Studies Center

Shao Chang Lee Scholarship Fund 
This fund is managed by the Asian Studies Center and awards MSU students who have made outstanding accomplishments in Asian studies and are pursuing or planning to pursue a program that includes Asian studies. Learn more via Asian Studies Center

  • S.C. Lee Scholarship S.C. Lee Scholarship promotes excellence in scholarship in honor of Professor Lee, an expert in Chinese history and religion.
  • S.C. Lee Best Paper Competition The Asian Studies Center at MSU awards students for research papers on Asian topics. Open to undergraduates and graduates, papers must be 15-25 pages and written during the preceding academic year. Book reports or reviews are not eligible. Only one submission per student.

The Dr. Lillian M. Lowery Scholarship
This scholarship is intended for graduate students pursuing a master’s in education. Named in honor of Dr. Lillian M. Lowery, a passionate teacher and education leader who championed education reform throughout the United States before joining ETS, where she served as Vice President of Student and Teacher Assessments. The scholarship supports students committed to advancing opportunities for all. Learn more via Salesforce. Award Amount: $15,000. Apply by: March 15

Joey M. Spano Varsity ‘S’ Club Graduate Fellowship
The Joey M. Spano, Varsity ‘S’ Club Fellowship is available to MSU Varsity Letter Winners and members of the Varsity ‘S’ Club who have graduated from MSU with a GPA of 3.10 or higher. Applicants must be accepted or pending acceptance into an MSU graduate program and must be enrolled in the semester when receiving funding. Award amount: $4,800.
