Each week, we ask a member of the college grad student community to share 3 picks related to one of their passions. This week, CITE doctoral student Travon Jefferson shares 3 favorite places to eat in Detroit:
Being from Detroit, Mich., one thing I love to do is go back home and indulge in the wide range of foods I’ve eaten growing up. Here are 3 of my favorite places to eat while I’m in the city! If you’re ever in Detroit, try and stop at one of these places:

  1. Coney Island (Detroit One or L George’s): There’s always talk amongst Detroiters about which Coney Island is the best in the city, and usually Detroit One or L George’s take the top spot. If you want an authentic coney dog, grilled chicken pita, or chili cheese fries, I highly recommend these places! And Detroit One is directly across from the Michigan State University building in Detroit.
  2. Breadless: A newer restaurant, but delicious and pretty healthy! They make sandwiches (I recommend the Jerk City Chicken) and wrap them in your choice of lettuce, collard green, kale, etc.
  3. Bucharest Grill: If you’re up for some Mediterranean food, I’d highly recommend Bucharest! They have some of the best shawarmas in the city! I’d usually get the Bucharest Shawarma!
