RECR Workshop: Case Studies in Authorship and Plagiarism 
Oct. 24, 6 to 7 p.m.
 This workshop focuses on real-world case studies to discuss team power dynamics in authorship, authorship criteria, disputes in multi-team collaborations and plagiarism prevention. Participants will learn about authorship criteria, the benefits of authorship agreements, conflict resolution strategies and plagiarism avoidance. VIRTUAL EVENT: Learn more via the Graduate School 

The Core Components of a Successful Broader Impacts Plan 
Oct. 26, 10 to 11:30 a.m. This workshop explains NSF’s broader impacts (BI) criterion, covers its key components, major goals and offers resources for developing a successful proposal. Lunch with the Dean of the Graduate School
Oct. 26, 12 to 1 p.m.
 Graduate School Dean Pero Dagbovie invites graduate students for an informal lunch at Chittenden Hall, offering a chance to connect, discuss career and school journeys, learn about Graduate School programs, and engage in candid university and student life conversations. Writing Center Write-In 
Oct. 27, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. 
Write-ins provide an opportunity to work in a shared space with others present. Goal setting, co-working space and 1:1 consultations are available. Write-ins are free, but registration is required. Register via the Graduate School 

Student Affairs Educators: Finding the Light in an Anti-DEIJ Climate 
Oct. 27, 1 to 2 p.m. 
Attend this SAA panel celebrating Careers in Student Affairs Month. Explore the challenges and triumphs faced by student affairs educators with minoritized identities in today’s climate. Gain insights into shaping the field of student affairs from MSU alumni and students. Hosted by the Student Affairs Administration (SAA) MA Program and the Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (HALE) MA Program at MSU. VIRTUAL EVENT: Register via Zoom

Funding Language Study Abroad Information Session 
Oct. 27, 3 to 4 p.m.
 MSU is hosting an information session for students keen on language studies through education abroad programs. The event covers various scholarship opportunities like the Boren Awards for language study, the Critical Languages Scholarship for intensive language institutes and the Gilman International Scholarship for Pell Grant recipients. Effectively Engaging with Multilingual Learners in Diverse Undergraduate Classrooms 
Oct. 27, 3 to 4:30 p.m. 
This workshop explores strategies to support multilingual learners in diverse undergraduate classrooms where English is the medium of instruction, fostering an effective and inclusive learning environment. VIRTUAL EVENT: Learn more via the Graduate School

DEI Conversations in Sport 
Oct. 30, 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
 Hosted by the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports (ISYS), the DEI Conversations in Sport conference focuses on addressing and preventing incidents of hate in sports by providing attendees with terminology, preventative strategies, and a crisis response plan for coaches and administrators. Facilitators include:

  • Dr. Ashley Baker is the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging at MSU Federal Credit Union. Formerly, she served as Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer for MSU Athletics.
  • Dr. Andrew MacIntosh is Chief Program Officer at RISE, where he helps to educate and empower the sports community into programs for varying audiences and contexts.

Opportunities

Office of Research & Innovation AI Networking Event
In efforts to advance research related to artificial intelligence and to foster collaboration across campus, the Office of Research and Innovation is hosting an AI networking event with a poster session and reception in the MSU Union Ballroom on Nov. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m., with the goal of identifying those who perform research with AI, as well as those who are interested in learning more about AI and how to apply it in their research. In addition to networking, the poster session will present varied approaches MSU researchers are taking with AI. Space will be provided throughout the ballroom and in the adjacent MOSAIC Center to provide opportunities for collaboration, inquiry and more. This event is open to MSU faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and anyone in the MSU community who uses AI, or would like to learn more about AI. Spring 2024 Course: Brown at 70: Historical and Contemporary Implications of U.S. Desegregation Policy  
Introducing a new course that comprises three parts: the conditions and actions that lead to the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka decision, the contested era of implementation and massive resistance that followed, and the legacy of Brown in schools today. Students will work on public workshops/presentations to mark the 70th anniversary in 2024 and complete a traditional final paper or project. MSU Dialogues registration is open for MSU graduate student employees. This program fosters inclusive leadership and community change by enhancing dialogue skills and understanding diverse identities, equipping participants with valuable skills for personal and professional growth. MSU CAPS Presents the Cultivating Concentration Workshop 
The Cultivating Concentration workshop is designed for students who want to increase their attention and will focus on tips and strategies for improving concentration and focus for academic, work and life demands. Submit a proposal (as MSU faculty, academic staff, grad students, or undergraduate students) to participate in the MSU Science Festival (April 1-30, 2024). Presentation formats include: hand-on activities, demonstrations, performances, behind-the-scene tours and open houses, resources for self-guided experiences, and hosted book talks/game nights/poetry readings/etc. Submissions due: Nov 4.
