Youth Sport and Disability: The Uncounted Ones
Sept. 22, 4 to 5:30 p.m. The Department of Kinesiology and the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports present the Kristen Marie Gould Endowed Lecture on Sport for Children and Youth. Join Dr. Kelly Arbour-Nicitopoulos, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto. Her research program is theory-driven, using both quantitative and qualitative methods to measure, understand, and change physical activity behavior in children and youth experiencing disability. Virtual Dissertation Support Group

This six-week group provides doctoral students with a supportive, structured environment that helps mitigate the sense of isolation and frustration that often accompany the dissertation process. Online Master’s Student Ambassador Program

The College of Education is seeking two online master’s students to participate in its first Online Master’s Student Ambassador Program. As a participant in the program, you will be asked to provide 10 hours of support during the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters, engaging with current and prospective students. Womxn of Color Writing Retreat

The Womxn of Color Initiatives (WOCI) at MSU is pleased to announce a three-day, two-night writing retreat intended to advance dissertation writing among womxn of color graduate students and early career faculty whose scholarship aligns with the overall mission and purpose of WOCI. The retreat will be held Nov. 11-13, 2022, at Pretty Lake Camp in Mattawan, Mich. The review committee will prioritize students who are 1) already writing their dissertation and 2) whose advisors confirm that they are within one year of completion, and 3) who are first-time attendees. Fellowship to Enhance Global Understanding (FEGU)

The College of Education will offer one Fellowship to Enhance Global Understanding program, open to college doctoral students in their first three years of study. The 2022-23 FEGU will focus on “Examining Race, Colonization, and Structural Inequality in a South African Context.” Among other activities, it will involve a study trip to South Africa in late May/early June 2023. The faculty leaders are Drs. Dorinda Carter Andrews and Terry Flennaugh.

Institute for Citizens & Scholars Fellowship Opportunities

The Institute for Citizens & Scholars has opened its 2023 competition for fellowships that support dissertation completion:
- The WW Dissertation Fellowships in Women’s Studies: Since 1974, the WW Dissertation Fellowship in Women’s Studies has supported original, significant, interdisciplinary doctoral dissertations on women’s and gender issues. Award: $5,000. Deadline: Oct. 14.
- The Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships: Newcombe Fellows are late-stage Ph.D. students studying how ethical and religious values shape society, including political decisions, public life, culture, history, literature, and other areas. Award: $30,000. Deadline: Nov. 15.
