Teacher Preparation Program: Elementary, Secondary or Special Education

Teacher writes on a white board in front of a classroom

The Teacher Preparation Program is known for its ability to prepare educators who are prepared to lead on day one of teaching in their own classrooms. This is due in large part to the expertise of MSU's world-renowned faculty and our long-standing commitment to hands-on, immersive learning, including through an internship.

We have been ranked the best in the nation for elementary/secondary education for more than 30 years (U.S. News & World Report). The top ranking reflects our commitment to developing and mentoring excellent teaching practices. It also reflects our outstanding reputation with superintendents, principals, teachers and educators not only in Michigan, but around the globe.

Note: Our Special Education Teacher Preparation Program combines regular elementary teaching certification and K-12 endorsement in the special education area of learning disabilities. Both certification and endorsement are awarded only after completion of a fifth-year internship experience.

The reason for this reputation is simple: MSU’s College of Education develops teacher leaders.
