The College of Education seeks a qualified Research Associate for the Department of Teacher Education.
Primary job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: researching current events with relevance to course topics; writing assessment items to elicit students’ understanding of course topics; analyzing student interviews and written responses for evidence of students’ understanding of course topics; collaborating with and supervising undergraduate and graduate students’ work on the above activities; conducting student interviews to elicit students’ understanding of course topics; and/or; participating in dissemination of project results through conference presentations and publications.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g., natural sciences, psychology, philosophy, education, public policy) with demonstrated interest in public understanding of science and its implications for decision-making and public policy.
Candidates should also have strong understanding of course topics (see http://sensesensibilityscience.com/schedule/) and/or the ability to learn quickly. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational skills, have the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and be responsive to feedback. A variety of skills and forms of expertise are desirable, including familiarity with statistics, philosophy of science, and decision-making; experience conducting interviews and/or qualitative data analysis; expertise in educational measurement; policy experience; and experience mentoring less experienced researchers. It is not expected that any one candidate would possess all of these characteristics.
