Fixed-term faculty – Teacher education- grand rapids instructor

Job Summary

The Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University is seeking outstanding candidates for a fixed-term (non-tenure stream) faculty position in support of our secondary and elementary teacher preparation programs. This position is a 2/3-time appointment with the potential for full-time work dependent upon applicant qualifications, intern enrollment in the Grand Rapids area, and other potential factors; this position will be located in Grand Rapids, MI. It is a one-year appointment, with potential renewal, based upon applicant qualifications, performance and department need.

Responsibilities will include a combination of the following: Initiating and maintaining school, district and community partnerships in the Grand Rapids area; identifying school districts for intern year placements in high schools, middle schools, and/or elementary schools; maintaining relationships with central administration, building administrators and mentor teachers in multiple districts; providing professional development to mentor teachers and field instructors; supervising field instructors and assisting with the design and implementation of educational experiences for interns; working with mentor teachers, course instructors, and administrators to resolve student issues; assisting struggling students; directing the collection of mentor and instructor feedback each semester; attending department faculty and coordinator meetings; and providing oversight for maintaining student records. The candidate will serve as the instructor of record for the internship (TE501/502) and may participate as an instructor in secondary and/or elementary education professional courses depending on area of subject matter expertise.

Qualifications

Candidates must have successful collaborative leadership experience; strong communication skills; demonstrated commitment to cultural/linguistic diversity; skills in collaborating with teachers/principals; experience teaching/working in K‐12 public school settings; earned MA in relevant field.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with facilitating teacher learning, pre-service or  in-service; experience working with MSU partner schools; experience working with Grand Rapids Public Schools; experience planning events; experience with data management or evaluation; experience using technology to solve problems.
