The Master of Arts in Special Education at Michigan State University, which became a completely online program for the first time this fall, is now admitting students to begin courses in summer or fall 2011. The application deadline is Feb. 15.
Students in the program can earn an endorsement in Learning Disabilities (LD) or in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), which is new at MSU this year pending approval from the Michigan Department of Education.
Special education teachers are in high demand throughout the United States. Over half of the students enrolled in special education have learning disabilities, and the number of students with autism spectrum disorders has increased dramatically in the past decade.
With all courses online, students can complete the master’s program without having to come to campus. In most cases, projects and clinical experiences can be completed in students’ own classrooms or schools.
Graduates of the Teacher Preparation Program at MSU may apply credits from their internship year to the master’s program.
