James Anderson, VI

Professor Emeritus James Anderson, VI died Oct. 12, 2014. Anderson was a 1969 Ph.D. graduate of the MSU Elementary Education program. He joined the teacher education faculty and visited and taught in many countries around the world throughout his time at MSU from 1965-91.

Ben Bornhorst, professor emeritus of education

Ben Bornhorst

Ben Borhorst, professor emeritus of education, died June 28, 2014. Bohnhorst joined the faculty in 1968 and retired in 1986. Bohnhorst was also the founder of the Old Town Poetry Series in Lansing, and was a former president of the Lansing Poetry Club and the Poetry Society of Michigan.

Bruce D. Cheney

Bruce D. Cheney, professor of teacher education, died Jan. 7, 2015. In addition to his time at MSU from 1966-93, Cheney was a woodworker, community volunteer and a lifelong Boy Scout.

Grover “Bruce” Fossum

Grover “Bruce” Fossum, a professor in what is now the Department of Kinesiology for 30 years, died March 12, 2014. Fossum was part of the college from 1959-89, and was also the MSU head men’s golf coach from 1965-89. He helped found the women’s golf team at MSU, and was in both the Golf Coaches Association of America’s Hall of Fame and the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.

W. Henry Kennedy

W. Henry Kennedy, professor emeritus, died March 20, 2015. Kennedy was a teacher education faculty member starting in 1956 and director of student teaching from 1964-88. Additionally, he helped set up teacher education programs throughout the world.

Perry Lanier

Professor Emeritus Perry Lanier died Jan. 31, 2014. Lanier joined the faculty in 1967, and was instrumental in the development of many of the groundbreaking initiatives in teacher education that put the college on the map in the 1970s and 80s. His career included 35 years of distinguished teaching and service to the College of Education.

C. Blair MacLean, professor emeritus, died Oct. 23, 2014. He was a professor of administration and curriculum from 1955-82, as well as a professor at the United States Naval Academy. MacLean also served the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War.

Professor Emeritus R. Arden Moon died Jan. 1, 2015. Moon received his Ph.D. in Educational Administration from MSU in 1969. He retired in 1998 as a professor of teacher education after 30 years of service.
