People say, ‘You’re mean, you’re a bully, you’re abusive…..’ I call these fill in the blank accusations, and they seem to be an everyday occurrence at EVERY level of sport. As a coach, just saying ‘NO I’m Not’ is not a defense. How do you prove ‘culture’?” – Coach Jacquie Joseph
Over the last few years, Coach Joseph has learned how to protect herself, her reputation and the program she has built after dealing with some of the culture issues that are all too commonplace in sport today. Her ability to manage team culture has led to the stability of her program and has made for a successful career. She has learned how to keep accurate records and prove team culture in a number of different ways.
The sports world is a high-stakes environment, and coaches are pressured from many angles, and Coach Joseph is no stranger to that pressure. At this year’s Summer Coaches’ School she will enlighten audiences of all coaching backgrounds on some best practices and strategies for protecting yourself and your program in the process. Her talk will help every coach in the room prepare themselves for potential legal issues in the coaching profession. She believes that having these skills not only helps you protect yourself as a coach, but it also translates into producing a stable and successful program.
Coach Joseph (Twitter: @MSUCoachJoseph) has been leading Spartan softball for the last 24 years of her 30-year coaching career. This past December, she was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame in the Pioneer category which recognizes a member that has contributed above and beyond to the sport of fastpitch softball through service, leadership, coaching and/or participation. Her success in all facets of the game and her desire to help student-athletes succeed is what makes her an ideal coach to speak at this conference. She is very excited to join this year’s team of presenters.

“I am truly excited to be included in this conference,” said Coach Joseph. “I have been a fan from afar for the last two years and I hope I can contribute in a meaningful way.”
Coach Joseph is a former NFCA president, a well-respected clinician, and an author of two books (Defensive Softball Drills and The Baffled Parent’s Guide to Coaching Youth Softball) and five videos dedicated to teaching and coaching the game. She has instilled core values in the Michigan State softball program for the past 23 years, developing student-athletes that are successful on the field, in the classroom and in the community. Under Joseph’s leadership, these values allow her players to not only become successful during their college career, but in their future endeavors as well. The 2017 Summer Coaches’ School takes place June 19-20 at the Brody Center at MSU. The cost is $125 for both days (or $75 for a single day). For a limited time, you can register 4 coaches from one school or club for the price of 3.
