Teaching and Learning About Data Through Stories: An Interdisciplinary Perspective

October 2, 2023 @ 4:30 pm EDT

In this presentation, we build on the literature on undergraduate data education by discussing emerging findings from a new interdisciplinary course at MSU on data and stories. Findings suggest an opportunity to use storytelling practices to support students in developing critical and creative orientations toward data. Storytelling affords the opportunity to develop technical acumen with data while also addressing broader ontoepistemological questions about the nature of knowledge production, use, and representation.

A collaboration among James Madison College, the College of Education, and the Interdisciplinary and Inquiry Teaching Fellowship.

Presented by:

Lee Melvin Peralta (College of Ed, PhD ‘24)

Dr. Louise Jezierski (JMC, Associate Professor)
