Teaching Position: CEP 923 Item Response Theory

 

Duties: The teaching assistant (TA) should have a working knowledge of item response theory methods for analyzing educational and psychological test data including graphical representation of item and test characteristics, understanding of dichotomous and polytomous models, and the assumptions underlying the models. The TA should also be able to analyze data using BILOG and be able to explain the set-up of programs to students in the class and explain the results in the output from the program. The TA must be able to communicate effectively and if an international student must have taken and passed the SPEAK test. The TA will hold regular weekly office hours, assist in creation and grading of course assignments, and conduct a training session on BILOG for students. Teaching assistants should also be available to attend class sessions. There may be an opportunity to teach a class session.

Desired Qualifications: 

  1. Completion of CEP 923 or comparable course.
  2. Proficiency in BILOG; experience with other IRT software is helpful.
  3. Teaching assistants must be able to communicate effectively and if an international student must have taken and passed the SPEAK test.
  4. Enrollment in a PhD program in the College of Education

Training: Teaching assistants will undergo an orientation session with the supervising faculty a week prior to the first day of the course.

Mentoring, Monitoring and Evaluation:Teaching assistants’ performance will be monitored by the supervising faculty throughout the semester and verbal feedback will be provided. Written evaluation of the teaching assistant’s performance will be provided at the end of the course.
