Center Fellows

Dr. Jussi Kivistö, University of Tampere (2009)

The HALE program was fortunate to host Dr. Kivistö, a Fulbright scholar from Finland. While at Michigan State University, Dr. Kivistö conducted research in international doctoral program development and assisted the Center for Higher and Adult Education in developing a cooperatively taught, international comparative higher education policy course. He also co-taught EAD 882 with Professor Fairweather, giving HALE graduate students a unique perspective on international higher education policy.

Dr. David Chapman, Wallace Professor of Education, University of Minnesota (2009)

Dr. Chapman served as a Center Fellow for six weeks in the spring semester, 2009. He delivered two major talks and held individual meetings with many students and faculty members about research interests concerning higher education in the international context.

Dr. Seppo Hölttä, University of Helsinki (2009)

Seppo Hölttä is Professor of Higher Education Administration and Finance, currently at the University of Tampere in Finland. His disciplinary basis is in economics, and his research focuses on higher education administration and finance. He is the head of the Higher Education Group (HEG) based at the University of Tampere.

Dr. Timo Aarrevaara, University of Helsinki (2009)

Timo Aarrevaara is Docent of Management Studies at the University of Tampere. He holds a doctorate in Administrative Science from the University of Helsinki, and is currently the research director of the Higher Education Group (HEG).

Dr. Wanhua Ma, Peking University (2009)

Wanhua Ma is an Associate Professor of Education at China's prestigious Peking University in Beijing. She earned her PhD in educational psychology and higher education administration from Cornell University. Dr. Ma serves as a UNESCO program chair and is academically associated with several U.S. universities.

Dr. Phil Altbach, Boston College (2008)

Dr. Altbach is the J. Donald Monan, S.J. University Professor and director of the Center for International Higher Education in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College. He hold a doctorate from the University of Chicago. He is chairperson of the International Advisory Council of the Graduate School of Education at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and is a Guest Professor at the Institute of Higher Education at Peking University.
