K-12 Certification in the College of Education
The College of Education offers guidance and preparation leading to certification for teachers (elementary and secondary levels), administrators, school psychologists and school guidance counselors. MSU also offers preparation for occupational certification in Vocational Agriscience and Natural Resources.
A recommendation for certification from MSU for any type of certificate or endorsement requires that the applicant complete a planned program of study, with the majority of credits earned through MSU. The applicant must also submit an application for the certificate or endorsement to the MSU Certification Office.

Students finishing their fifth-year internship as part of the MSU teacher preparation program must complete a few more steps to become certified.
Every year, the MSU Certification Office helps hundreds of certified teachers maintain their certification or add endorsements that enable them to teach additional student populations, grade levels or subject areas. Educators may also become certified as school administrators.
MSU’s teacher preparation program has partnered with MSU’s Confucius Institute to offer a unique program that prepares native speakers of Chinese to teach Chinese language and culture in American schools.
Individuals who have bachelor's degrees and want to pursue teacher certification choose from several program options at MSU, depending on their previous education and goals.
Individuals who meet the requirements and earn advanced degrees in School Psychology or Counseling at MSU can apply to become certified as School Psychologists or School Guidance Counselors.
MSU offers a post-baccalaureate fellowship program leading to teacher certification for individuals who have backgrounds in mathematics and science and are serious about teaching in high-need schools.
